KIT Jinju Environmental Toxicology Research Center- A New Vision for International Environment Control

KIT Jinju Environmental Toxicology Research Center

KIT is establishing an environmental toxicity testing center to international standards in the city of Jinju of Gyeongnam province to actively respond to global environmental regulations along with EU REACH enforcement. KIT Jinju Environmental Toxicology Research Center that will move into ¡®Bio 21¡¯ the cutting edge bio cluster complex in downtown Jinju, occupying 8,264 m2 out of a total of 26,500 m2. Also, KIT Jinju Environmental Toxicology Research center is investing over 30 billion wons in this project to be completed in 2011. The Center will be outfitted with installations and equipments that can perform analysis of chemical ingredients such as agro-chemicals and residual agro-chemicals, radioisotope testing, soil testing, microorganism dissolution and bio concentration testing, toxicity evaluation in fish, water fleas and avians extrapolating to the effect on the human body and environment. Moreover, with its capability to offer cutting edge toxicity evaluation services including toxicity screening, alternative toxicity technique and toxicity estimation technique along with general toxicity studies required in the process of development of substances such as various pharmaceuticals and health supplements, the center will be a critical player in domestic bio-medicine development and research.

Vision

  • Contribute to improving national competitiveness by meeting the requirements of toxicity evaluation studies and testing standards related to domestic and overseas industrial chemicals and agro-chemicals, and accelerating the development of new medicines.
  • Establish itself as a critical national infrastructure to provide services to domestic industries, universities, research institutes and government organizations by focusing on alternative toxicity, anticipation toxicity, biological agents analysis and ADME tests.

Primary Goals

Establish itself as a GLP environmental toxicology research center of international standards

  • Provide all the tests required by REACH, including eco-toxicity testing, environmental chemistry and physico-chemical properties testing, and improving the competitiveness as an international environmental toxicology evaluation organization

Establish alternative and anticipated toxicity testing systems for new and future technologies.

  • Develop alternative toxicity test techniques
  • Develop toxicity anticipation and evaluation techniques

Firmly establish in-vivo conditions evaluation techniques to international standards and build up the domestic infrastructure

  • Develop in vivo and in vitro evaluation techniques
  • Evaluation and analysis of chemicals using radioisotope
  • In vitro enteric membrane absorption anticipation techniques
  • Chemicals and bio specimen analysis techniques
  • PK/PD modeling techniques

Develop pre-clinical testing techniques for the development of new bio medicines

  • Devise development plans based on the concept of R&BD (Research & Business Development), Establish implementation strategies for market analysis, approval and registration
